# Bring in clips from other tools

> Generate short clips with OpusClip or Descript, review them, and import the ones you keep onto an episode with their transcripts.

> For the complete documentation index, see [llms.txt](https://docs.conviapro.com/llms.txt).

Convia Pro connects to two clipping tools, OpusClip and Descript, so clips made there land on your episode without downloading and re-uploading files. Both live in the **Add clips** menu on an episode's **Clips** page. Imported clips arrive with their transcripts, ready for posts, campaigns and scheduling.

The OpusClip and Descript options are shown to workspace owners and managers. While clips are being made, progress appears under the **Clips** heading.

## Choose a tool

| | OpusClip | Descript |
|---|---|---|
| What it does | Generates short clips from the episode's long-form video for you to review and import | Brings back compositions from the episode's Descript project as clips, or asks Descript's agent to make them |
| Who pays | Your own OpusClip account, or Convia AI credits with the Managed Clipping add-on | Your own Descript account and its credits |
| What you need | The OpusClip integration on your plan, or the Managed Clipping add-on | The Descript integration on your plan and a connected Descript account |
| Transcripts | Kept on every imported clip | Included on every imported clip, at no credit cost |

To bring in clips from any other tool, upload the video files with **Add clips → Upload video files...** or **Clips Library → Upload New Clips**. See [Episodes & clips](https://docs.conviapro.com/docs/episodes-and-clips.md).

## OpusClip

> [!NOTE]
> OpusClip is available only where your plan includes the OpusClip integration or your workspace holds the Managed Clipping add-on. If neither applies, choosing OpusClip in **Add clips** offers both options instead.

### Set up OpusClip

There are two ways to run OpusClip. If a workspace has both, its own key is used.

- **Managed Clipping (add-on).** Clipping runs through Convia and is paid from your AI credits, with no OpusClip subscription or API key of your own. Buy it from **Billing** (under **Workspace** in the launcher), where the exact amount is shown before you confirm. Cancel any time and keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
- **Your own OpusClip API key.** Enter it at **Integrations → OpusClip** and click **Validate**, which saves and checks the key in one step. Clipping then runs on your OpusClip account, and Convia does not resell OpusClip credits. To change the key, click **Disconnect** first.

If your workspace has not added its key yet, choosing OpusClip in **Add clips** asks for it right there. On the **Integrations → OpusClip** page you can also set defaults for brand template, curation model (**ClipBasic** or **ClipAnything**) and virality threshold, then click **Save defaults**.

### Create clips with OpusClip

1. Open the episode's **Clips** page and choose **Add clips → OpusClip → Create new clips...**. Until OpusClip is set up, the menu item reads **Create clips with OpusClip** or **Connect OpusClip** instead.
2. Under **Source video**, choose **Raw recording** or **Final edit video**.
3. Optionally tick **Use AI prompt with ClipAnything**. Convia writes a custom prompt from your brand voice and this episode for you to edit, regenerate or use. Each prompt costs 3 credits. If the episode has no insights yet, or your brand voice is empty, the dialog points you to fix that first.
4. Optionally pick a **Brand template**, a start and end range of the episode, and a **Clip duration** in seconds.
5. Click **Submit to OpusClip**. Convia notifies you when clips are ready to review.

Managed Clipping costs 2 credits per minute of source video, with a 20-credit minimum per job, so a 6-minute episode still costs 20 credits. The dialog shows the cost before you submit, and failed jobs are refunded automatically. Your monthly minutes allowance appears under **Usage & Quotas** on **Billing**. Managed Clipping needs to know the episode's length; set it on the **Episode length** card if Convia could not measure it.

### Review and import OpusClip clips

The review page shows every clip OpusClip generated, with its virality score.

- Sort by virality, filter by keyword or minimum duration, and use **Select all visible** or auto-select everything above a virality threshold.
- Preview a clip, or open it to see its transcript, source timestamps and hashtags.
- **Edit in OpusClip** opens the clip in OpusClip's editor in a new tab. Clips you edit there import in their edited version, and **Refresh from OpusClip** pulls the latest titles, transcripts and edits.
- **Reject** one clip, or select several and reject them together. Rejected clips leave the review page.
- Click **Import** to bring in the clips you picked. The button shows how many you selected.

Imports run in the background, with a progress panel at the bottom right that follows you between pages and survives a reload. Convia imports each clip in full quality. A clip that OpusClip is still rendering is left out and named in the message, so you can import it again in a few minutes. Imported clips carry an OpusClip badge and keep their transcript and tags, so **Generate Posts** and search work on them right away.

> [!IMPORTANT]
> OpusClip projects expire 30 days after they are created. The review page warns you as the date approaches. After it passes, clips can no longer be previewed or imported, only rejected.

### Import an existing OpusClip project

If you made clips in OpusClip yourself, choose **Add clips → OpusClip → Import an existing project...** and paste the project or editor link, or the project ID. Its clips arrive as review candidates with no new clipping job and nothing spent. This option needs your own OpusClip key.

### Discard OpusClip clips and start over

If a batch comes back with the wrong look or from the wrong part of the episode, a manager can choose **Discard clips and start over** on the **Clips** page or the review page. Clips you already imported stay in your library. Nothing is refunded, so creating clips again is priced like any other job.

## Descript

Descript runs on your own Descript account. Connect it at **Integrations → Descript** by entering your API token and clicking **Validate**. The same page sets a default render resolution and whether to include brand assets by default. To edit a full episode in Descript, see [Episodes & clips](https://docs.conviapro.com/docs/episodes-and-clips.md).

### Import clips from Descript

1. Open the episode's **Clips** page and choose **Add clips → Descript → Import clips from Descript...**.
2. If no Descript project is attached to the episode, the menu offers **Attach a Descript project** instead. Pick the project from the list or paste its link, and the list of compositions opens as soon as it is attached.
3. Descript can't preview a composition before it is rendered, so each row has a **Transcript** button that shows the opening lines of what the clip says. It is free.
4. Tick up to five compositions and confirm. They render at the same time, each succeeds or fails on its own, and you can cancel any single render while the others carry on.

Each composition lands in your clip library with its transcript, at no credit cost. A composition that is already rendering is skipped. Each workspace can start up to 30 Descript renders in any 24 hours.

### Create clips with Descript

1. Choose **Add clips → Descript → Create clips with Descript...**.
2. Pick the composition to clip from.
3. Choose **How many** clips (3, 5, 8 or 10) and a length (**Under 30s**, **30 to 60s**, **60 to 90s** or **Up to 3 min**).
4. Under **What should it make?**, write your instructions or start from a ready-made prompt. Saved prompt templates fill in details such as your episode title, guest name and key themes.
5. Click **Start**. Descript's agent builds the clips inside your Descript project, which can take a few minutes.
6. When it finishes, Convia tells you how many clips it made and opens the list with those clips already ticked. Nothing comes into Convia until you choose.

The run uses your Descript account's AI credits. Each episode can have one Descript run at a time.
