Episodes are your source content in Convia Pro: a podcast, video or webinar recording that clips, posts, articles and campaigns are built from. Clips are the short excerpts you cut from an episode for social media. You manage both from the My Content column of the menu: Episodes for full recordings and Clips Library for clips across all episodes.
Create an episode
- Go to My Content → Episodes and click New Episode.
- Enter an Episode Name. It is the only required field.
- Optionally add a Season Number, an Episode Number and one or more Guest(s).
- Click Create Episode. The new episode opens so you can add details and media.
Your plan sets how many episodes you can create each month. If you have used your allowance, Convia tells you when you try to create one. See Plans & billing.
You can also bring in existing episodes from your podcast feed (Import your back catalog) or create an episode from a script (Ideas & scripts).
Find and filter episodes
The Episodes list shows each episode's season and has a Filter by season control. Sorting by season keeps episodes in episode order within each season, with episodes that have no season last. The filter lists only the seasons in the tab you are viewing, plus No season when some episodes have none. Use Search episodes... to find one by name.
Set episode details
An episode's Overview page holds its basic information:
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Episode Name | The name used throughout Convia |
| Season # and Episode # | Used for sorting and the season filter |
| Record Date | The day you record |
| Publish Date | The release day. It must be on or after the Record Date. Magic Repurpose plans a campaign around it |
| Status | Where the episode is in your workflow |
| Guests and Hosts | The people on the episode. See Guest Portal |
Record and publish dates are days in your workspace time zone, so teammates, guests and clients in other time zones see the same day you picked.
Episode statuses
Episode statuses are your workspace's own workflow stages, so the list differs from one workspace to the next. You set them in the Get ready to publish milestone (Quickstart), and owners and managers can change them under Settings → Workflow & Tasks. A typical set looks like this:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Planned | Scheduled but not recorded |
| Recording | In production |
| Post-Production | Editing and generating content |
| Published | Live on platforms |
| Archived | No longer promoted |
Statuses you mark Ready to publish under Settings → Workflow & Tasks matter elsewhere: Notify episode is ready becomes available once an episode reaches one, and Autopilot can wait for released episodes before posting their clips.
The episode page
An episode's pages are listed in its sidebar. The header above every page carries Magic Repurpose, Notify Guests and Comments.
| Page | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Overview | Basic info, guests, hosts and status |
| Episode Prep | Planning before you record, including a prep call transcript and a Conversation Outline |
| Recording | The original recording, final edit and audio, one at a time |
| Clips | The episode's clips and the Add clips menu |
| Images | The Thumbnail Studio launcher. See AI thumbnails |
| Transcript | The transcript and speaker names |
| Insights | AI themes, takeaways and tags |
| Distribution | YouTube details, podcast description, chapters and thumbnails |
| Social Content | Articles, posts and campaigns, with Magic Campaign, Create Campaign and Schedule clips |
| Analytics | Cross-platform performance for the episode's posts |
Upload the recording and final edit
The Recording page shows one item at a time. Choose Original recording, Final edit or Audio from the list beside it to see that item's video, its length, and its upload and Descript actions.
- Original recording is the raw, unedited capture.
- Final edit is the finished episode. Transcription, Magic Repurpose and the audio export all work from it.
- Drop a file on the item, or use its upload control. Accepted formats are MP4, MOV, WebM, MP3, WAV and M4A.
- The largest file you can upload depends on your plan.
The Episode length card shows how long the episode is and where that figure came from. If Convia cannot measure it, set it yourself as MM:SS or HH:MM:SS. Managed clipping needs a known length to price a job.
Export the episode audio
Export audio on the Episode Audio card creates an audio-only MP3 of the episode for podcast distribution. It is free and takes a couple of minutes for a full episode. It uses the final edit, or the original recording if there is no final edit. Use Re-export after you replace the video, or Delete to move the MP3 to the Trash.
Edit the episode in Descript
With a connected Descript account (Integrations → Descript, under Workspace in the launcher), start editing from Original recording with your own instructions or ready-made prompts that fill in your episode's details. Bring the edit back with Import from Descript on Final edit. Descript's transcript comes back with the edit at no credit cost, and Convia asks before it replaces a transcript you pasted. Editing is billed to your Descript account.
If Descript finishes a render but the download into Convia fails, Retry download fetches the finished render again without starting a new one, so Descript does not bill you twice. Start a new render sits beside it. To bring Descript compositions back as clips, see Bring in clips from other tools.
Transcribe an episode
- Upload the final edit.
- Open the Transcript page and click Transcribe.
- Under People in the conversation, enter how many people are speaking so Convia can detect their voices, or choose Skip and transcribe anyway.
- When the transcript is ready, click Name speakers to match each voice to a host or guest.
| Fact | Detail |
|---|---|
| Cost | 1 credit per minute of audio or video, rounded up. A 45-minute episode costs 45 credits |
| When you are charged | When the transcript finishes |
| Re-transcribe | Replaces the existing transcript and costs credits again |
| Identify speakers | Re-detects speakers from the existing transcript. Free, and the text does not change |
| Pasted transcripts | Free. A transcript with timings (SRT, WebVTT or bracketed plain text) also fills in the episode length |
| Descript transcripts | Free, returned with a Descript edit |
| Export | Copy or download a transcript as plain text or a Word document |
If speakers are missing or attributed to the wrong person, report it from the transcript view.
Work with clips
Clips are short excerpts from an episode. Each clip has its own entry in My Content → Clips Library, with its duration, parent episode, transcription status and the posts made from it.
Add clips to an episode
On an episode's Clips page, the Add clips menu offers:
- Upload video files..., or drop video files anywhere on the clip list. Each file becomes its own clip.
- Add a clip with details..., a form for a single clip.
- Create clips with OpusClip, Import clips from Descript and Create clips with Descript, shown to owners and managers. See Bring in clips from other tools.
You can also upload from Clips Library with Upload New Clips, and link the clips to an episode now or later.
Manage clips in the Clips Library
- Search by title, description or tags, filter by episode, or show Unlinked clips only.
- Use Multi-Select to transcribe, trim or move several clips at once.
- Move to Trash removes a clip. You can restore it from Settings → Trash.
Open a clip to edit its title, description and tags, and see its Linked Social Posts. Click Transcribe under the video to transcribe a clip. A clip needs a transcript before Convia can generate posts from it, and clips are tagged automatically when they are transcribed.
Trim the end of a clip
Trim the end sets a new end point. Nudge it in hundredths of a second or type the exact number of seconds to remove. You can apply the same trim to several selected clips and undo it later. Trimming does not re-encode, so quality is unchanged.
Turn clips into posts
- Open a clip from My Content → Clips Library.
- Click Generate Posts.
- Pick your target platforms.
- Review the drafts Convia writes for each platform.
To schedule many clips at once, use Schedule clips on the episode's Social Content page, or select clips on the Clips page and choose Schedule selected. See Calendar & scheduling for Bulk schedule clips and Spread out.
