Publishing to each platform

What Convia can post to X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, TikTok, YouTube and Bluesky, the limits on each, and what to do when a post fails.

Last updated
On this page

Convia Pro publishes directly to each platform through that platform's own connection, so a scheduled post goes out on its own at its time. This page is the reference for what each platform accepts, the limits Convia checks, platform quirks, which analytics come back, and what happens when a post fails. To connect an account, see Connect social accounts.

Supported platforms

Convia publishes to eight platforms. LinkedIn connects two ways: LinkedIn for personal profiles and LinkedIn Company for Company Pages, where your plan includes it.

Platform Account types How it connects
X (Twitter) Any account Sign in to X
LinkedIn Personal profiles Sign in to LinkedIn
LinkedIn Company Company Pages Sign in to LinkedIn as an admin of the page, then pick the page
Facebook Pages only. Personal profiles are not supported Sign in to Facebook and pick a Page
Instagram Professional or Business accounts Sign in to Instagram
Threads Professional or Business accounts Sign in to Threads
TikTok Creator or Business accounts Sign in to TikTok
YouTube Any channel Sign in to Google
Bluesky Any account Your Bluesky handle and an app password you create in Bluesky's settings

Every platform except Bluesky connects by signing in, with no approval step. Add accounts on the Social Channels page (under Show in the launcher) with Add Account.

What your plan includes

Which platforms you can connect, and how many accounts, depends on your plan:

  • In Add Account, a platform your plan does not include shows (Upgrade required).
  • On plans with one account per platform, the limit applies when you connect, and the platform shows (Upgrade to add more) once you have one.
  • When you reach your plan's limit on connected accounts, Add Account says so.
  • A channel added with Add offline does not count toward the connected channels on your plan.

Whether first comments and the @-mention picker are available depends on your plan, and so does which analytics Convia collects. See Plans & billing and pricing.

What you can post on each platform

Platform Text only Image Several images Video Link card PDF document First comment
X (Twitter) Yes Yes Up to 4 Yes X builds its own preview from a link in the text No Yes
LinkedIn (personal) Yes Yes Up to 20 Yes Yes Yes No
LinkedIn Company Yes Yes Up to 20 Yes Yes Yes Yes
Facebook Page Yes Yes No Yes Yes No Yes
Instagram No, media is required Yes Carousel of 2 to 10 As a Reel or a Story No No Yes, except on stories
Threads Yes Yes Carousel of 2 to 20 Yes No No Yes
TikTok No Photo posts Photo carousel of 2 to 35 Yes No No No
YouTube No No No Yes, video only No No No
Bluesky Yes Yes Up to 4, shown as a grid One video Yes No Yes

First comment posts a comment of your own right after the post publishes, a common way to keep links out of the caption. You can set a delay of up to a minute. On Instagram, Facebook and Threads it also needs the account to have granted Convia permission to comment; if an account needs an updated connection, the First Comment card says so. TikTok and YouTube do not allow scheduled first comments.

Text limits

The editor shows a character counter that turns red when you are over the limit. An over-long post is stopped with a message naming the limit before anything is sent.

Platform Post text Title
X (Twitter) 280 characters. Every link counts as 23 None
LinkedIn and LinkedIn Company 3,000 characters None
Facebook 63,206 characters Video title up to 255
Instagram 2,200 characters None
Threads 500 characters None
TikTok 2,200 characters for a video, 4,000 for a photo post None
YouTube Description up to 5,000 characters Up to 100
Bluesky 300 characters None

The title is the Published title in the composer, used as the public title on YouTube and Facebook. Every other platform ignores it. Captions written by automations and Magic Campaigns are kept within each platform's limit.

Tagging people and organizations

Platform How @-mentions work
LinkedIn and LinkedIn Company Search for and tag an organization with the picker. Plain text does not link. Up to 25 mentions per post. LinkedIn Company posts can also tag organizations in the first comment
X (Twitter), Bluesky Search for and tag an account with the picker, or type the handle, which links on its own
Instagram, Threads, TikTok No picker, but an exact @handle still links when published. Convia cannot check the handle exists, and TikTok may not notify the tagged account
Facebook, YouTube An @ in a post or description does not link

Whether the picker is available depends on your plan. See Mentions & tagging.

X (Twitter)

Accounts: any X account.

What you can post: text, up to 4 images, or a video. Links go in the text and X builds its own preview.

Media Limit
Images Up to 4. JPG, PNG, GIF or WEBP. Up to 5 MB each, or 15 MB for an animated GIF
Video MP4 or MOV, up to 512 MB, from 0.5 to 140 seconds
Aspect ratio Between 1:3 and 3:1

Quirks:

  • X counts every link as 23 characters, however long it is, and so does Convia.
  • A first comment is posted as a reply to your own post.

Analytics: impressions, likes, replies and reposts. A new post is refreshed once a day for its first nine days, checked again at two weeks and one month, and keeps its one-month numbers after that. Add existing post is not available for X.

LinkedIn (personal profiles)

Accounts: personal LinkedIn profiles, connected as LinkedIn.

What you can post: text, images (up to 20), video, link posts and PDF documents, which LinkedIn shows as a swipeable carousel.

Media Limit
Images Up to 20. JPG, GIF or PNG, up to 5 MB each. Animated GIFs up to 250 frames
Video MP4 only, from 75 KB to 500 MB, from 3 seconds to 30 minutes
PDF document Up to 100 MB and 300 pages

Quirks:

  • Some landscape PDFs fail in LinkedIn's own document processing, even when uploaded on LinkedIn directly. Portrait PDFs work reliably.
  • First comments are not available on personal profiles. They work on company pages through LinkedIn Company.
  • The mention picker tags organizations, not people.

Analytics: Convia does not collect post performance for personal profiles. LinkedIn analytics come from company pages connected as LinkedIn Company, and a personal profile's card can offer Enable analytics to connect one. Posts from personal profiles cannot be brought in with Add existing post.

LinkedIn Company Pages

Accounts: LinkedIn Company Pages, connected as LinkedIn Company in Add Account. You sign in as an admin of the page and pick it, and any admin of the page can reconnect it later. Whether your plan includes LinkedIn Company shows in Add Account.

What you can post: the same as personal profiles: text, up to 20 images, video, link posts and PDF documents, with the same media limits.

Quirks:

  • First comments are supported, up to 1,250 characters, and can tag organizations.

Analytics: impressions, reach, reactions, comments and shares. LinkedIn reports company page statistics over a rolling 12 months, and Convia tracks your 100 most recent posts per account; older posts keep the numbers already collected. A new post is refreshed once a day for its first nine days, checked at two weeks and one month, and keeps its one-month numbers after that. Posts you published on LinkedIn directly can be brought in with Add existing post, and arrive as published with their original date.

Facebook Pages

Accounts: Facebook Pages only. On plans with one account per platform, you connect a single Page. Reconnecting keeps the card on the same Page.

What you can post: text, a single image, video, and link posts. Facebook does not offer multi-image carousels for organic Page posts.

Media Limit
Images JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP or TIFF, up to 30 MB
Video MP4 or MOV, up to 4 GB, from 3 seconds to 240 minutes, at up to 30 frames per second
Video title Up to 255 characters, from the Published title

Quirks:

  • Fill in the Published title on video posts. Leave it blank and the internal name is used as the public title.
  • An @ in a Facebook post does not link to anyone.
  • First comments need the Page to have granted permission to comment.

Analytics: reactions on every post, and shares on Page posts. Facebook does not report shares on videos, so videos show a dash. Comments, views, reach and watch time depend on the permissions the Page granted when it connected; Convia shows a prompt on accounts that need to reconnect for them. A new post is refreshed twice a day for two weeks, checked at two weeks and one month, then once a month. Add existing post is available.

Instagram

Accounts: Professional or Business Instagram accounts.

What you can post: a single image, a carousel, or a video. Instagram requires media, so there are no text-only posts. A video publishes as a Reel unless you choose Story.

Media Limit
Images JPEG or PNG, up to 8 MB, 320 to 1,440 pixels wide, aspect ratio between 4:5 and 1.91:1
Carousel 2 to 10 items, images and videos mixed
Reels MP4 or MOV, from 3 seconds to 15 minutes. Portrait 9:16 is accepted
Story video Up to 60 seconds and 100 MB

Settings per post, in the composer's Privacy & additional settings card:

  • Publish as: Reel or Story (24 hours). A story disappears after 24 hours and takes no caption and no first comment, because Instagram shows neither on a story.
  • Also show in feed: on by default for every reel. Off keeps the reel in the Reels tab only, out of your profile grid and followers' feeds.
  • Trial reel: off by default. A trial reel is shown to people who do not follow you first, and you decide in Instagram later whether to share it with followers. Instagram requires around 1,000 followers; if your account is not eligible, the reel publishes as normal.

Set any of these as the account's default under Default publishing settings on its card in Social Channels. New posts start with those values; existing drafts and scheduled posts keep their own. In the approval queue, posts that publish differently carry a chip: Story · 24h, Reels tab only or Trial reel.

Analytics: likes and comments. Views, reach and saves depend on the permissions the account granted when it connected; reconnecting turns the rest on. Instagram does not report shares or reposts to anyone, and story performance is not measured. A new post is refreshed twice a day for two weeks, checked at two weeks and one month, then once a month. Add existing post brings in feed posts and reels, not stories.

Threads

Accounts: Professional or Business Threads accounts.

What you can post: text, images, a carousel, or video.

Media Limit
Images JPEG or PNG, up to 8 MB, 320 to 1,440 pixels wide
Video MP4 or MOV, up to 1 GB, from 1 second to 5 minutes
Carousel 2 to 20 items, images and videos mixed

Quirks:

  • A first comment is posted as a reply, and needs the account to have granted permission to reply.
  • If Threads refuses a video, the publishing log names the file size and what to do next.

Analytics: views, likes, replies and reposts. The numbers depend on the insights permission the account granted when it connected. A new post is refreshed twice a day for its first nine days, checked at two weeks and one month, then once a month. Add existing post is available.

TikTok

Accounts: Creator or Business TikTok accounts.

What you can post: videos, and photo posts of one or more images. There are no text-only posts and no first comments.

Media Limit
Photos JPEG or WebP only (PNG is not accepted), up to 20 MB, at most 1,080 × 1,920 pixels. Larger images are refused when you attach them
Photo carousel 2 to 35 images
Video MP4, WebM or MOV, up to 4 GB and 10 minutes

Settings TikTok requires, in the composer's Privacy & additional settings card:

  • Who can view this post: Everyone, Friends (mutual follows), Followers or Only me. Only the options TikTok offers for your account appear, and you must choose one.
  • Allow comments, Allow Duet and Allow Stitch, each off until you turn it on. Duet and Stitch are hidden on photo posts, and any you have turned off in TikTok itself are unavailable.
  • Disclose: this content promotes yourself, a brand, product, or service. Turn it on, then choose Your brand, Branded content, or both. TikTok labels the post as promotional content or a paid partnership. Branded content cannot be set to Only me.
  • A consent line confirms you agree to TikTok's Music Usage Confirmation, and its Branded Content Policy when the post is branded.

Set defaults for these on the account's card under Default publishing settings. Posts written by automations start from those defaults, and show Only me unless set in the approval queue when no audience has been chosen. AI assistants connected to Convia cannot choose the privacy level or branded-content disclosures; those stay with you.

Quirks:

  • TikTok gives a video its public link only after its own review, which can take a while. When the link arrives late, Convia finds the video on your account and adds the View on TikTok link, as long as it can tell which video belongs to the post.
  • If TikTok refuses a post because the account is posting too often, Convia flags the post and tries again about three hours later, up to two times, before marking it failed for review.
  • If TikTok stops accepting a connection, the post editor and Social Channels say so and offer Reconnect.

Analytics: views, likes, comments and shares. Accounts connected before analytics launched show Enable analytics on their card; one click reconnects with analytics access. A new post is refreshed twice a day for its first nine days, checked at two weeks and one month, then once a month. Add existing post is available.

YouTube

Accounts: any YouTube channel.

What you can post: videos only. Shorts are posted from the composer, campaigns and automations; full episodes are published from the episode's Distribution page.

Item Limit
Video formats MP4, MOV or WebM
Title Up to 100 characters
Description Up to 5,000 characters
Tags Up to 500 characters in total

Settings per post: Visibility (Public, Unlisted (anyone with link) or Private (only you)), a Scheduled publish time for private videos, Made for Kids (required by YouTube, off unless you turn it on), Category (People & Blogs unless you choose another), Tags, Default audio language and a playlist. AI assistants connected to Convia cannot set Made for Kids.

Quirks:

  • A title over 100 characters, or a description over 5,000, stops the upload with a message saying which is too long, instead of uploading with the end cut off. A post with no title takes one from the start of its text.
  • A custom thumbnail, end screens and a Short's related video can only be set in YouTube Studio once the video is on YouTube. Finish on YouTube uploads early so you can do this.
  • Deleting a post in Convia leaves the video on YouTube.

Analytics: views, likes, comments, watch time and subscriber changes, plus thumbnail impressions and click-through rate, which YouTube reports about two days behind. A new video is refreshed twice a day for two weeks, checked at two weeks and one month, then once a week. Add existing post is available.

For finishing Shorts, the related-video routine and changing a video's public time, see YouTube publishing.

Bluesky

Accounts: any Bluesky account, connected with your handle and an app password you create in your Bluesky settings. There is no sign-in redirect. Bluesky is not offered on the Client Portal's Your Channels page for that reason.

What you can post: text, up to 4 images, one video, and link posts with a link card.

Media Limit
Images Up to 4, JPEG or PNG. Bluesky shows several images as a grid, not a carousel
Video One MP4 per post, up to 100 MB and 3 minutes

Quirks: a first comment is posted as a reply to your post.

Analytics: likes, replies, reposts and bookmarks, which Convia shows as saves. Bluesky reports no views or reach anywhere, so Bluesky posts have engagement counts but no engagement rate. A new post is refreshed twice a day for its first nine days, checked at two weeks and one month, then once a month. Add existing post is available.

Checks before a post goes out

Convia checks a post twice so platform problems are caught early:

  • When you attach media, it checks the file's format, size and dimensions against the platform, and the editor counts characters as you type.
  • When the post is sent, it checks the stored post again, so content a platform would refuse is stopped before it reaches the platform.

While a post is being sent, it shows as Processing. Once published, it offers View Post to open it on the platform (View on YouTube for YouTube).

When a post fails

A post that could not be published shows a red Failed status. Convia also sends a notification when a post fails, and warns you when an account's connection is about to expire.

What Convia retries on its own

  • Temporary problems, such as a network timeout, a platform rate limit or a platform server error, are retried automatically. The publishing history shows Retrying while it does.
  • Problems a retry cannot fix, such as an expired or revoked connection or content the platform rejects, fail straight away so you can fix them.
  • A post never stays stuck while sending. If something goes wrong on the way to the platform, it is marked failed so you can retry it.

See every publish attempt

Settings → Publishing history lists every attempt to publish, with the Date/Time, Post, Platform, Status and Error. Filter by time range (Last 7 days, Last 30 days, Last 90 days, All time), by status (Success, Failed, Retrying) and by platform. A failed attempt has a Retry button.

Fix and retry a failed post

  1. Open the post and read the error message.
  2. Fix the cause: reconnect the account, shorten the text, or replace the media.
  3. Pick a new time and click Update, or choose Publish Now from the arrow beside it. You can also click Retry in Settings → Publishing history.
  4. The post shows as Scheduled, or as published once the platform confirms it.

Common causes

Cause What you see What to do
The account's connection expired or was revoked The account card shows Reconnect, and posting to that account pauses Click Reconnect on Social Channels and sign in with the same account the card belongs to
The account is Offline The post goes back to draft and you get a notification Connect the account, then schedule the post again
Your plan's publishing limit is reached The post goes back to drafts Upgrade your plan, then schedule it again
No plan is active yet Publishing stays paused until you pick a plan; nothing you created is lost Choose a plan under Billing (under Workspace in the launcher)
Text over the platform's limit The post stops with a message naming the limit Shorten the text or title
Media the platform refuses An error naming the problem; for Instagram and Threads videos, the file size and what to do next Replace the file with one that fits the limits above
The platform refuses the content or rate-limits the account An error from the platform Edit the content, or post less often and retry later
TikTok says the account is posting too often The post is flagged and moved about three hours later, up to two times Leave it, or reschedule it yourself; after two tries it is marked failed for review
